The Lunar Chakra Cleanse

A few of my roommates and I have decided to create and follow a 28 day food challenge which will sync us up to the lunar cycle and integrate the seven chakras. The whole arc begins this Friday, January 11th during the new moon phase and ends 28 days later during the next new moon. This full harmonic cycle is divided into seven smaller cycles of four days each; one for each chakra.

The only requirement is that during each four day chakra cycle we only take in food that is the same colour as the current chakra we are working on. Beginning with red, we move through each chakra in order – orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and then violet. Depending on each individual there could be some difference in terms of what constitutes a particular colour. Below I have listed the different foods I will be placing in each chakra cycle.

My intention with this experience is to identify how my body responds to particular foods. I have mentioned before how skilled our bodies are at communicating to us what it needs for food intake. One difficulty in expanding our awareness to include this feedback is that since we eat so many different kinds of food at the same time it is difficult to connect the effect to the cause. By narrowing the food selection to a single colour, the choices available to eat will be limited, and the effect each food has on my body will be more easily identified. This minimal variety will also help with the body’s digestive processes, freeing up energy for other body functions.

One other intention I should mention is that I will be taking steps to ensure that all of the food is organic and whole. This is to more accurately identify any body effects as a result of the food and not any possible chemicals within the food.

Here are the foods I will be selecting for each colour cycle:

Red – Beet, tomato, red pepper, kidney beans, raspberries, red potatoes, radishes, cranberry, pomegranate, goji berries

Orange – carrots, oranges, sweet potatoes, orange peppers, cheddar cheese, butternut squash, turmeric, walnut, cayenne

Yellow – pears, yellow peppers, ginger, pineapple, corn, lemon, golden flax seeds, honey, spaghetti squash

Green – broccoli, asparagus, avocado, cucumber, green beans, green pepper, grapes, leafy greens (kale, spinach, etc.), brussel sprouts, alfalfa sprouts, wheatgrass

Blue – blueberries and blue algae (BrainOn)

Indigo – acai, black mulberries, lotus/rose water, blackberries, black beans, black olives

Violet – plums, raisins, purple grapes, purple (red) onions, eggplant, purple cabbage, lavender, elderberries, black tomatoes, Saskatoon berries

*******

I invite anyone who wishes to also participate to create their own plan (length, food categorization, etc.), along with goals and intentions. It really helps to have another person to do it with to help keep each other motivated and inspired to stay on track. I would love to hear about your experience as well!

Much love, keep dreaming!
